Ctrl+Alt+Del: The Animated Series
Episode 8 - 6/28/06

 

INT. GAMEHAVEN - DAY

ETHAN bursts into the entrance of the GameHaven full of
excitement. His arms are raised triumphantly.

ETHAN
Mark this day in the history books,
for today Lego Star Wars II hits
the shelves!

ETHAN proudly walks up to the front counter. Along the way, a
MAN walks by him, plastic GameHaven bag in hand. Ethan
arrives at the counter to meet with BARRY.

ETHAN (CONT'D)
Barry, I believe you have a copy of
Lego Star Wars for me.

ETHAN sticks out his hand, waiting for the delivery. BARRY
sighs; he is holding a small slip of paper as he turns to the
counter.

BARRY
Look, Ethan--

ETHAN interrupts BARRY by snatching the piece of paper from
BARRY's hand.

ETHAN
(Impressed)
Remarkable! Has digital disc format
already become obsolete, making way
for this new paper technology?

BARRY
No... Ethan, look. You didn't pre
order. We're sold out. That's the
receipt for the last copy sold.

ETHAN
What?! But... this is a day in
history! Who's ruining my
historical day?!

BARRY
He just left a few minutes ago--

ETHAN doesn't stay to listen; he immediately runs out of the
store into the parking lot.

EXT. GAMEHAVEN - DAY

The man, EVAN, is seen walking away from the storefront,
still with plastic bag in hand. In the distant background,
Ethan emerges from the front door and shouts after him.

ETHAN
YOU! Wait!

The man is surprised and stops in his tracks. He casually
turns around to be greeted by a running Ethan.

ETHAN (CONT'D)
I need that game, let me buy it
from you!

Evan looks at Ethan with a suspicious eye.

EVAN
Buy it from me?

ETHAN
Yes, in exchange for money.

Evan thinks about it to himself.

EVAN
Ummmm... No. I don't think so.

ETHAN
What? What do you--

Before ETHAN can finish his statement, EVAN quickly gets in
his car and speeds off. ETHAN narrows his eyes in anger as
this event registers. He takes a quick look at the receipt
and looks away again, determined.

OPENING CREDITS

EXT. EVAN'S HOUSE - AFTERNOON

We open on a shot of a car in a driveway. It is the same car
EVAN drove away in. The camera pans over to the front door,
where ETHAN is standing on the front steps, knocking on the
door and ringing the doorbell.

Finally, EVAN answers the door.

EVAN
Can I help you?

ETHAN
I'm done playing nice, I demand
that you hand over my game!

EVAN
(realization)
You're the guy from the parking
lot...

ETHAN
(trying to be threatening)
Look, we can do this the easy way,
or the hard way.

EVAN
Hmm... the easy way.

EVAN slams the door in ETHAN'S face. ETHAN is visibly
frustrated.

EXT. EVAN'S HOUSE - EVENING - SAME DAY

ETHAN is putting the final touches on a makeshift female
doll. Ethan steps back and quickly examines the work.

He then turns to the doorbell, rings it a few times and jumps
into a nearby bush. ETHAN'S eyes appear through the branches.

Evan answers the door and sees "AMY" staring back.

ETHAN
(as Amy)
Hey big boy, I heard you just got a
new video game. How about you and I
play a little co-op, if you know
what I mean. Wink, wink.

EVAN
Yeaaaa... sure. Why don't you come
on inside, baby.

EVAN takes the doll by the hand and pulls her inside. He
shuts the door behind.

ETHAN emerges from the bushes, confused and agitated.

ETHAN
Not how I imagined that would go...

EXT. EVAN'S HOUSE - NIGHT - SAME DAY

We open with a close shot on ETHAN, in full spy infiltration
gear with a climbing harness and rigging. His is dangling
outside a window, prying it open.

When the camera pulls back, we see that ETHAN is suspended
only a couple of feet off the ground; the window is on the
first floor.

INT. HALLWAY

Inside the house, ETHAN makes his way down a darkened
hallway. He's got his night vision goggles on, and he's
sneaking along. He passes by an open doorway, and inside we
briefly see the makeshift doll, Amy, half-undressed and in
the bed under the covers. There is a cigarette in the ashtray
on the night stand, giving off wisps of smoke.

ETHAN freezes as he hears noises further down the hallway. He
quickly flicks off the goggles, and flattens himself against
the wall, unmoving.

Suddenly, the hallway lights go on and EVAN walks right past
ETHAN. He stops, and a perplexed look crosses his face, and
he turns slowly to give ETHAN a bewildered look.

ETHAN
(still trying to remain
hidden)
...I'm new wallpaper. Keep walking.

CUT TO:

INT. HOLE

ETHAN is seen at the bottom of a muddy hole. He is concerned
and cold; he shivers. A bucket is lowered into the whole,on a
rope; it holds a video game controller.

ETHAN looks up and sees a television being wheeled to the
edge of the hole. A video game flickers on it but is
indistinguishable from its angle.

EVAN leans over the side of the hole, looking down at ETHAN.

EVAN
It pushes A to start the game or
else it gets the hose again!

ETHAN punches the bucket.

ETHAN
Let me go!

EVAN
I'm so glad you dropped by. I've
always wanted someone to play video
games with!

ETHAN looks at the sides of the wall and casually feels the
texture.

ETHAN
Wait a minute... I can get out of
here, I've done this a million
times in video games.

ETHAN backs up to the far wall of the hole, crouches down and
runs in the small space that he has towards the other wall.
He jumps as high as he can, attempts to wall kick his way out
of the hole. Instead he slams painfully into the opposite
wall, and them to the ground.

ETHAN (CONT'D)
(painfully)
... Oowwwww. I think I've made a
huge mistake...

INT. LIVING ROOM

ETHAN and EVAN are seen playing Halo. EVAN is having the time
of this life while ETHAN is attempting to play in the
confines of the small cage he is imprisoned in.

GAME FOOTAGE

Split screen. We see one SPARTAN standing there, motionless.
A second SPARTAN runs up to him his an energy sword, and
begins punching him in the face with it until he is dead.

INT. LIVING ROOM

EVAN
Yes! I win again! I am a Halo god!
In your face!

ETHAN sighs and raises his controller which shows that its
not plugged in. He glances over to a GameHaven bag sitting on
a table in the living room.

CUT TO:

INT. LIVING ROOM - LATER

EVAN is seen playing a DS. Reverse shot shows ETHAN also
playing a DS but strapped to a large number of electrodes.

GAME FOOTAGE

MARIO and LUIGI are both running to get a star. MARIO gets
it, but LUIGI stomps on him and steals the star for himself.

INT. LIVING ROOM

EVAN is surprised and disappointed and looks to his side
where sits a button labeled with a star. He pushes it in
frustration. ETHAN gets electrocuted.

CUT TO:

INT. LIVING ROOM - EVEN LATER

ETHAN is hog-tied around his upper body and tethered to the
ceiling. His feet rest gently on a DDR pad. The game starts
up and Ethan's face turns to panic. EVAN looks on in
excitement.

The song is chosen and the menus fire up. ETHAN starts to
struggle to get out, but to no avail.

A random Japanese pop song starts to play and the first arrow
appears from the bottom of the screen, slowly advancing
upward..

ETHAN is struggling to break free, and EVAN, realizing ETHAN
won't do it on his own, leaps to the floor and grabs hold of
ETHAN's leg, trying to force his foot to tape the DDR pad
arrow.

The two struggle back and forth as the arrow makes its way
more towards the top of the screen. CLOSE UP on ETHAN'S foot
nearing the pad. CLOSE UP on the arrow approaching its apex.

Suddenly, the rope holding ETHAN snaps under the strain and
ETHAN crashes to the ground on top of EVAN. The arrow is seen
reaching the top and the word "MISS" appears below it. The
drama comes to a close.

ETHAN leaps up, free of his bonds.

ETHAN
Tie me up, throw me in a hole, even
electrocute me, fine! But I'll die
before I play DDR!

ETHAN takes off, making his escape. EVAN gives chase. ETHAN
remembers the GameHaven bag and snatches it up while running.

INT. HALLWAY

As ETHAN is running down the hallway, he passes the bedroom
where the doll can still be seen in the bed. ETHAN skids to a
stop, and backs up to look in the room. His facial
expressions range from confusion, curiosity to disgust and
fear.

The momentary distraction allows EVAN to catch up, and he
makes a diving grab to tackle ETHAN. ETHAN snaps out of it
just in time, and ducks; EVAN flies overhead with a crash.
ETHAN jumps up and runs off.

INT. EVAN'S HOUSE- FRONT DOOR

ETHAN runs to the front door, bag in hand. He fiddles with
the lock. He swings the door open and barges through- right
through the screen door on the other side- and into the
night.

EXT. EVAN'S HOUSE - NIGHT

ETHAN is running from the house as fast as he can. In the
distance, EVAN shouts.

EVAN
Noooo... come back! I just want to
win at video games!

INT. ETHAN'S LIVING ROOM

ETHAN is stumbling into his house, clothes ripped, hair
messed up, skin burned. He's out of breath. He limps to the
couch where he puts the video game in the console and begins
to play it.

He sighs with contentment and relief as he begins to play,
but his attitude soon turns to irritation.

ETHAN
...This game sucks.

END
